 Coordinate Connectors

Coordinate connectors digunakan untuk menghubungkan bagian-bagian dari kalimat yang sama secara gramatikal, misalnya sesama kata tunggal maupun sesama klausa sehingga menghasilkan kalimat majemuk yang setara. Contoh coordinate connectors adalah and, but, or, so, yet. Coordinate connectors  diletakkan di antara kata-kata atau klausa-klausa yang dihubungkan. Berikut contoh-contoh kalimat yang menggunakan coordinate connectors :

·         Rami and Tanto are playing badminton.

·         I am a student of Tanjungpura University but i learn the courses in my home.

·         I will choose shirt or t-shirt.

·         Farah doesn’t speak in English, so the foreign tourists don’t understand her explanation.

·         Wati wants to learn cooking, yet she doesn’t buy the material.

 

Adverb Time and Cause Coordinate

Adverb time and cause connectors digunakan untuk menghubungkan induk klausa dengan anak klausa (main clause with dependent clause) yang berhubungan waktu atau sebab. Contoh adverb time connectors adalah after, before, when, whenever, as soon as, as long as. Contoh adverb cause connectors adalah because, in as much as. Adverb time and cause connectors dapat diletakkan di antara klausa-klausa yang dihubungkan atau diletakkan di awal kalimat bersama dependent clause lalu diikuti tanda baca koma dan main clause. Berikut contoh-contoh kalimat yang menggunakan adverb time and cause connectors :

a. adverb time

·         I tie up my hair whenever I feel swelter.

·         Santi will play game as soon as she finishes her assignment.

·         When Mrs. Rani arrived, her daughter had slept.

b. adverb cause

·         Ulfah buys a cake because her family will celebrate birthday of her sister.

·         Loli sells her bicycle in as much as she wants to buy a new bicycle.

 

Other Adverb Connectors

Other adverb connectors memiliki penempatan dan fungsi yang sama dengan adverb time and cause connectors, hanya saja klausa-klausanya berhubungan selain waktu dan sebab, yaitu dapat berhubungan kondisi, kekontrasan, cara, dan tempat. Berikut contoh-contoh kalimat yang menggunakan other adverb connectors:

a. condition (if, provided, unless)

·         If you love her, you must make her happy.

·         We can get money provided we work.

 

b. contrast (although, even though, though, whereas)

·         We respect his struggle although he loses.

·         She feels sick whereas she must finish the match.

 

c. manner (like, as)

·         My mother treated me like i was a child.

·         Reva writes letter for her mother as a writer writes her creation.

d. place (where, wherever)

·         I buy ice cream where the shop has delicious taste of ice cream.

·         Wherever you study, your success is from yourself.
